Cult actress Tura Satana, famously remembered from Russ Meyer’s 1965 cult classic Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! died February 4th, still looking quite striking and remarkable at 72. The former burlesque star played a go-go dancer gone bad in Meyer’s film, and did all her own stunt work.
Here’s a scene from FPKK:
She survived life in a Japanese-American internment camp in the California desert, and a brutal rape at the age of 9. By her teens, she had learned martial arts, led a gang, and even had a brief marriage. A film about her life is in development:
The New York Times Obituary on Satana noted her wide pop-cultural influence, which can be seen everywhere from Xena, Warrior Princess to the Kill Bill movie franchise. She will surely be missed.
Shine on you crazy diamond…
